Its was a very laid back weekend especially today. Started it all off by sleeping in, then headed to the farmers market to stock the fridge with goodies. City Farm had a booth set up today and I was really wanting to support them so I got a bunch of lovely beets, I'm looking forward to making something fantastic and fuschia this week. We snacked on a beef naanwich from Treat while perusing the vendors, it was perfectly spicy shredded beef with a bunch of greens all wrapped up in a pillowy piece of naan (I think this may have inspired a naan experiment in the near future so stay tuned). The first batch of peaches were out this week so we snagged a bunch which ended up going into a pitcher of red wine sangria that I made later in the day.
We also picked up a half baguette from Cook Au Vin, which spurred me to make some veggie bruschetta for a late afternoon snack. Bread, especially white bread, is a rarity in the house of Wroya but this bread was absolutely delicious- soft, perfectly chewy, with a mild buttery taste. I was totally kicking myself for not getting a full baguette, lesson learned for next time. The brushetta was a combination of zucchini, onion, garlic, mushrooms, tomatoes, red wine, and fresh herbs. Topped off with some shaved Parmesan Reggiano and perfecto!
I used some of the remaining bruschetta veggies to make my favorite stoup which is a simple combination of Italian sausage (I prefer turkey), onions, garlic, cannellini beans, tomatoes, spinach, and a bunch of fresh herbs. This stuff is the bomb, I make it year round for all occasions and even jar it up for Wren to take back to Indiana.
This last photo is actually from Saturday when I went to the burbs to see my family and attend my moms art festival, it is a picture of my oh so adorable (but don't tell her because she already has a really big head at the age of 5) niece Sarah. I just couldn't help myself she is so stinking cute!
